Dance to Spring Swing April 11

Dance to live swing music, eat organic tapas and support music in the public schools at “Spring Swing” on Saturday, April 11. The Nevada Union High School Jazz Band will get you “in the mood” with hits from jazz greats Glen Miller, the Dorsey Brothers and more during a unique and elegant evening out. Barry Connick, of “Dancing with Our Stars,” will give free lessons so you know all the basic swing moves.

Local chef Carlos Trujillo of Farm 2 Table will serve dinner using fresh, in-season, locally grown produce. For live and silent auctions, local businesses are donating goods and services, including a year’s subscription to The Union and a month of yoga lessons.

The highlight of the evening will be a performance by the award-winning Nevada Union Jazz Band. Members include trumpeters Rebekah Shuholm and Brandon Stubbs, who recently played in California’s All-State Honor Band; and trombonist Elliott Kramer, who played in the All-Northern Honor Band. All proceeds benefit the NU Instrumental Music Program.

Spring Swing is from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at St. Canice Hall, 236 Reward St., in Nevada City’s Seven Hills District. Tickets are $40 per person and are on sale now at BriarPatch Community Co-op and the Book Seller, both in Grass Valley.
