Community support from Gold Country Lions

Two local organizations in need recently received major donations resulting from the Gold Country Lions’ 9th Annual Motorcycle Poker Run event held on Mother’s Day weekend this year.

Lions Club members Gary Price and Tom Parilo presented a check for $3,500 to Richard Crandall, executive director of Sierra Services for the Blind, which provides free counseling, advocacy, education, transportation and independent living skills for the blind and visually impaired.

Price and Parilo also presented a check for $2,500 to Halli Ellis and Lynn Skrukrud, co-founders and coordinators of the youth group New Events & Opportunities (NEO).

Ellis and Skrukrud helped create drug free youth activities, such as concerts, dances and street fairs. NEO is working toward opening a Teen Center in order to provide consistent daily activities for local youth.

NEO sponsors an average of 25 annual events that engage roughly 7,000 young people.
