Community invited to Dolores ‘Dee’ Eldridge Scholarship celebration

Join members and guests for Business & Professional Women of Nevada County’s 16th annual Scholarship Award celebration Aug. 21. The Education Fund will be presenting two $2,000 scholarships to two outstanding recipients who will read their essays on “A Woman’s Issue That Concerns Me Most” and speak about their goals for the future. This year’s award recipients demonstrate clear goals, determination and realistic vision. They have endured hardships, overcome personal and educational challenges and manifest a resolute vision for their futures. In addition to this year’s recipients, four past years’ winners will bring us up to date on their education, professional accomplishments and how the scholarship has made a difference in their lives.

Sixteen years ago, members of BPW noticed there were many scholarships available for young women graduating from high school but very few, if any, for more mature women desirous of returning to school to restart or improve their professional lives. And so, the Dolores “Dee” Eldridge Scholarship was born. With a remarkable $26,350 in awards over the years, we are still here; helping women look to the future and provide for themselves, giving a hand up both financially and as mentors and sometimes making the difference between success and failure. We are still here saying, “We believe in you!”

Scholarships aid with tuition, books, childcare or any other needed services or supplies that support a return to school. Winning candidates have realistic goals, display ability and aptitude, ambition, motivation and financial need. Applicants must be 25 or older and residents of western Nevada County.
