Class of 1955 celebrates their 60th reunion

On October 10 men and women from near and far gathered at the Alta Sierra Country Club to celebrate the 1955 graduation of students from what was then the very new Nevada Union High School. The class started high school in 1951 at both the Grass Valley and Nevada City high school campuses. After consolidation to the Nevada Union Senior High School they became the second NUHS graduating class.

Since then the “55ers” have met in the Grass Valley/Nevada City area every five years to commemorate that occasion. Unique to this NU graduation class is the continued goal and concerted efforts to maintain close contact. Many socialize regularly, and the class has established a “Sunshine Club” for classmates with shared interests, as well as offerings of condolence for familial loss, illness or injury.

Regular events include the annual “55er” Fish Derby held at Portola started in 1987 exclusively for “55ers” and their spouses, an annual Christmas gathering held since 1982, a Super Bowl party and frequent attendance at Hooper Stadium NUHS football games. Luncheons are held regularly in restaurants of Nevada County.
