Imagine a high school student who is approaching one of the milestones of senior year, the prom, but due to economically disadvantaged circumstances, cannot afford the expense of attending this event. The Cinderella Project aims to change that. It provides these high school students with formal attire so they can attend their graduation festivities with pride.

The local Nevada County Cinderella Project was started in 2010 by Teri Nelson. She sent 25 Nevada Union seniors to the Senior Ball that year. Since then the project has grown to serve more 400 students, reaching out to every high school in Nevada County and building self esteem while making prom dreams come true.

At the First Tuesday Educational Forum sponsored by Nevada County Democrats, Sarah Gordon, head “Fairy God Mother” of the project, will explain the goals and activities of this organization, answer questions and accept donations.

This event takes place on Tuesday starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church, 828 West Main St., Grass Valley. Pizza and salad will be provided and beverages will be available for purchase. For more information, call 530-265-3367 or visit
