Chief Ray to address the Vietnam Veterans of America

Nevada County Consolidated Fire District Chief David Ray will speak to the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 535 during a monthly meeting Thursday. Chief Ray will talk about growing up in Nevada City and his many experiences fighting fires and dealing with other emergencies not only in Nevada County but throughout the state of California. The local chapter of Vietnam Veterans of America seeks to provide a spirit of camaraderie among a group of veterans who share a common heritage. The group also raises funds to support charities, including Friends of Nevada County Military (a local group that supports troops from our county and their families) and the Vinh Son Montagnard Orphanage (a group of Montagnard Orphanages with more than 800 orphans located in the Central Highlands of Vietnam), as well as programs for local veterans in need of assistance.

All veterans of the Vietnam era and their families are welcome to attend chapter meetings. The chapter meets at 6 p.m. the first Thursday of every month in the Remembrance Room, Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building, 255 South Auburn St., Grass Valley. For information, call (530) 265-4878 or visit http://www.vva535.org.
