Bear Yuba Land Trust officials confirm cancellation of Clover Valley Preserve event, land tour

Representatives at Bear Yuba Land Trust confirmed Tuesday that the Thursday community volunteer event to work on a new trail on the Clover Valley Preserve has been canceled due to anticipated cold weather and rain.

“Rain typically cancels outdoor work like trail maintenance and trail building,” said Laura Petersen, outreach coordinator for the nonprofit.

“A big storm predicted for Thursday is also canceling our Land Tour at Black Swan,” she added.

Petersen said most of the work on the trail has actually been completed. If weather permits, staff will start maintenance work on the the new trail at Burton Homestead next Thursday.

The next Land Tour is scheduled for March 17. Biologist and BYLT’s Stewardship Program Manager Erin Tarr will guide a free community hikes on Garden Bar Preserve. The free Land Tour program, held by Tarr each month, is a chance for the staff at the Land Trust to share projects and visions for each preserve with community members.

If volunteers are interested in future trail work days, regularly scheduled on Thursdays, they can give BYLT’s Trails Coordinator Shaun Clarke a call at 272-5994, ext. 207.
