Author to examine issues surrounding Common Core

Author, former teacher and Common Core opponent Orlean Koehle will be speaking in Grass Valley on her book, “Common Core, A Trojan Horse For Education Reform.” The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at at Penny’s Diner, 2072 Nevada City Highway (near Save Mart) in Grass Valley. The event is sponsored by the California Association of Business, Property and Resource Owners. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for CABPRO members; fruit and cheese platters are included.

Common Core is a program in which the federal government will define the curricula and the academic standards for each subject taught in every school district in states that have signed onto it. To date, 46 states have adopted Common Core standards, including California. Common Core standards represent about $1.6 billion in new unfunded mandates in California alone. Questions and answers will follow.
