Auditions for “Chinglish” Sunday

Community Asian Theatre of the Sierra (CATS) is holding auditions for their 2016 spring play, David Henry Hwang’s “Chinglish,” Sunday, by appointment only. “Chinglish” is a hilarious comedy about miscommunication in English and Chinese, directed by Annie Lareau (director of “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet”). This is the fourth show of the Tony-award-winning playwright presented by CATS. Others include “Tibet Through the Red Box” (2005), “Golden Child” (2008) and “Flower Drum Song” (2009). “Chinglish” run from April 7 to April 30, 2016, at the Nevada Theatre. Tickets will be available Dec. 1.

The show is seeking Mandarin-speaking men and women. For an audition appointment and details, visit http://www.catsweb.org.

“Chinglish” tells the story of an American businessman who desperately seeks to score a lucrative contract for his family’s firm. He travels to China only to learn how much he doesn’t understand. His translators are unreliable, his consultant may be a fraud, and he is captivated by Xi, the beautiful and seemingly supportive government official who talks the talk — but what is she saying, really?
