Annual ‘Day at You Bet & Old Red Dog’ this Saturday in Nevada County

The Nevada County Historical Society presents the annual “Day at You Bet & Old Red Dog,” from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The group will meet in the parking lot of the Nevada City Veterans Memorial Building at the corner of Pine and Cottage streets.

Jerry Brady will give a tour of points of interest, emphasized with photographs. Other members of the Brady family plan to give a detailed description of Placer and hydraulic mining in the 1930s. This is aided with poster sketches showing the steps in each process. Stops include a former homestead, townsite, historic cemeteries and hydraulic mining diggins.

Portable restroom facilities are available only at the picnic area, the last stop on the tour. Participants should bring appropriate clothes and shoes for walking short distances on dirt or gravel; lunch and water; a folding chair or seat cushion, as there are no tables at the picnic site and a bee sting kit if allergic. For more information, call 530-272-5154.
