A salute to the 1940s with swing dancers, Russ and Jeanette Osman-Bravard, “Andrews Sisters” songsters, World War II Women’s Army Corps, proved to be a winning combination for the 49th Annual Constitution Day Parade.

Judges deemed the Nevada County branch’s American Association of University Women (AAUW), “Best of the Parade.”

The parade entry was a sneak preview of AAUW’s upcoming event, “All About Unique Women — the Fateful 40s: The Decade that Changed Everything,” to be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the North Star House. Proceeds from the event benefit local AAUW scholarship programs.

Other parade winners were California Consolidated Drum Band and Delaware Regiment for “Best Historical Unit;” U.S. Submarine Veterans for “Best Float;” VFW Color Guard Post 2655 for “Best Marching Unit;” Sacramento Youth Band for “Best Musical Group,” and the Cinderella Project for “Mayor’s Choice.”
