4-H to host e-waste fundraiser Saturday

The Nevada County 4-H Washington D.C. delegates are holding a free e-waste collection to help pay for their trip this summer to Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Gettysburg. Drop off is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 11429 E. Bennett Road in Grass Valley (about half a mile out of town from the Durham bus lot). Items that cannot be accepted are large appliances, including microwaves, wooden speakers, electric irons, or any battery-operated devices.

The delegates have adopted the Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum as their community service project this year. They turned out in force last Saturday to clean the tracks of debris, replace rotten ties, level rails and gravel the rail bed. Donations of gravel by Hansen Bros., railroad ties by Hills Flat Lumber and dumpsters by Waste Management helped give the project a great start. There are collection jars at numerous businesses around town so the community can contribute to the restoration of a large section of the narrow gauge tracks. For more information on the e-waste event, call 530-273-2004.
