Vince Kavanaugh was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Chicago, Ill. He celebrated his 100th birthday on Nov. 25 at Highgate Senior Living with friends and relatives. Kavanaugh moved to Nevada City after retiring from the Naval Air Station in Alameda, Calif.. He later moved to Grass Valley, where he now resides at Highgate.

His daughter Linell traveled from Los Angeles to celebrate, as well as his great niece Beth from Sacramento and close friends from Idaho.

A special tribute was presented to Kavanaugh from the Brethren of Nevada Lodge #13 F&AM by Dennis Lewis, Worshipful Master, for his membership since 1953, as he is one of the longest living members of their order. A plaque with his name and year was given to him on this special occasion. Strawberry shortcake was his birthday cake of choice and he enjoyed it with a glass of champagne and a toast was raised in his honor.
