New round of storms could bring snow to low elevations

A new round of storms coming in tonight is expected to bring significant rain and probable snow to western Nevada County over the weekend.

The National Weather Service said the first storm will bring rain tonight, followed by a cold storm from Alaska on Friday. That storm is expected to bring snow to the foothills Friday night accumulating to 10 inches by Saturday morning.

More rain is expected Saturday and possibly another inch of snow by Sunday morning for Grass Valley and Nevada City.

The weather service’s Sacramento office has issued a hazardous mountain travel warning for the weekend because of the snow and expected wind gusts from 25 to 70 mph. Whiteouts are possible at the higher elevations of the Sierra.
