New mayor of Nevada City will be chosen this evening

A new mayor and vice mayor of Nevada City will be selected by the City Council at tonight’s meeting held in the Council Chambers of City Hall at 317 Broad St. The current mayor is Conley Weaver, with David McKay serving as vice mayor.

Also on tonight’s agenda:

– A resolution to require devices that would prevent sewage from backing up into homes. This was introduced at the last meeting of the City Council and would require all homes and businesses to install the devices, which cost about $800 each for installation.

– Consideration of an offer from the developer of Champion Estates on Highway 49 and Indian Flat Road to take in 40 acres of open space for park and recreation trails.

– Discussion about correcting the name of Bennett Street to “Bennetts” Street.
