New chamber music series set to begin

Starting this week, the Center for the Arts and Music in the Mountains will begin a new Sunday afternoon chamber music series at the Grass Valley venue.

Repertoire is from classical, light classical, opera and musical theater.

“Paul Perry (Music in the Mountains’ artistic director) and I were discussing musical venues and agreed that there is no regularly scheduled place for students and amateur musicians to get performance experience,” said John Bush, the center’s executive director. “So we decided to combine our efforts and create the Sunday Salons. We hope to have a mix of vocal and instrumental performances.”

Music in the Mountains moved one of its Steinway pianos to the center.

The first chamber music performance is at 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5. The next series’ event will be on Jan. 9.

Singers or instrumentalists who would like to perform Sunday should contact Maeve Fry at 273-0902 or by e-mail at

The center is at 314 W. Main St.
