New bike lanes benefit everyone

Many thanks to the Grass Valley city staff, council and traffic safety committee for paving and painting the new bike lanes on East Main Street.

The new lanes, from Hughes to Scandling in both directions, help make the entrance to Grass Valley a safer one for both bikers and drivers. This and other recent bike improvements (other bike lanes around town, signs on the “Main Street Narrows” from downtown to Chevron) remind bikers and drivers of the pre-existing vehicle code that allows bikes to use the full lane.

The City Hall bike lockers (just ask City Hall for details on their use) show the city’s awareness that promoting alternative modes of transportation has positive effects for the bottom line and for the sustainability and livability of the whole community.

Congratulations and many thanks from the Alliance for People Powered Transportation (APPT), Alliance for a Post-Petroleum Local Economy (APPLE) and all the bikers and drivers who will benefit from the smoother, safer traffic flow every day.
