Never can say goodbye

When Dan and Nikki Granholm first bought their ’57 Chevy 150 thirty-fiveyears ago, it was to be their family car. They liked the body style and answered a “little old couple’s” newspaper ad. It had a six cylinder engine and “three on the tree” standard trans. After Dan adjusted the clutch so that it would move, they bought it. Since that model had no back seat, that was the first addition for their three kids. After five years, the motor froze and Dan put in a 283 CID V-8 to keep moving. By the late 70’s, they had stopped driving it and then sold it for $700, without the motor. The buyer was supposed to pick it up later, but never did.

After five years of having it sit in his yard Dan bought it back for $600. So the Chevy stayed with them. In the mid 90’s, Dan started to work intermittently on improving it and it finally became the car it is by 2004. Now it has a 350 CID engine with headers and a five-speed Borg Warner trans. The car is lowered, with 2″ drop spindles and a 3″ drop in the back. It is painted opalescent white, with a red velour interior. Dan and Nikki ride in comfort on Bronco seats with a custom console, listening to sounds from an AM/FM/Cass/CD stereo. And there are no plans to say goodbye.
