Nevada Union takes 2nd at Bear River tourney

The Nevada Union junior varsity boys water polo team finished second at the Bear River tournament Saturday.

In the tourney, the Miners tied eventual winner Roseville 13-13. Roseville was crowned the tourney’s winner based on goal difference.

Returning sophomore field players Jared Fernandez, Franz Shimek, Ethan Good, Nic Vandra and Reed Bertran turned in great performances and anchored a team that includes a lot of new players.

Sophomore goalie Isaiah Marcum was dominant in the cage, said NU head coach Lotty Hellested. Marcum is a cross athlete from NU baseball, and his full-court throwing ability led to a lot of assists and scoring opportunities for NU.
