Nevada Union girls win in double OT

Olympia Jacobs and Caroline Reeves hit back-to-back 3-pointers to keep it alive in overtime, then Christian Woodruff scored to open the second extra period as Nevada Union rallied for a 60-55 double overtime victory at home against Elk Grove in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I girls basketball playoffs Thursday night.

The Miners trailed 53-49 in the first overtime before Jacobs and Reeves connected for their 3-pointers to tie the score 55-55. The Miners moved ahead in the second overtime on Woodruff’s basket, then Reeves hit a pair of free throws to make it 60-55.

Sarah McAtee and Reeves finished with 17 points each to lead Nevada Union. Freshman point guard Kelani Desoto scored 23 and Kara Boyles 22 for Elk Grove.
