Nevada County Concert Band presents second performance of season

Nevada County Concert Band Picnic and Pops Concert No. 2 is on tap for Sunday, July 22, 5-7 p.m., at Pioneer Park in Nevada City (at Nimrod and Park streets). The theme, “A River Runs Through It,” features water-referenced music, such as a Mancini medley, and jazz vocal soloist Sarah Pressler with “Cry Me a River.”

A grandmother and grandson will play for the first time together. Kathleen Kaplan of Foster City will play percussion while grandson Elisha Sears from Fallon, Nev., will play clarinet. Also participating will be representatives from the nonprofit South Yuba River Citizen’s League, who will share some concerns and opportunities regarding our county’s rivers.

The concert is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. Go online at, e-mail the band at or phone (530) 272-6228. Aug. 26 is the next concert, “Where the Wild Things Are.”
