Nevada City knocked out of running for Amgen

The bike race that brought Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer and international publicity to Nevada City in May won’t include the town this year.

Officials from the Amgen Tour of California informed Nevada City Manager Gene Albaugh late Wednesday that the town was out of the running as a host city for the eight-day race.

On the bright side, Albaugh noted, it would give local organizers a break: “I know how much work goes into it,” he said.

Which cities are still in the running has not yet been released. Locally, Lake Tahoe and Auburn have applied for the honors.
