Nevada City couple attends convention

Robert and Bethany Gallegos of Nevada City recently were sent to the Episcopalian General Convention in Minneapolis, Minn. Long time members of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Nevada City, this week-long trip was offered to them by the youth and young adults coordinator for the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California. It was thought that the trip would be a chance for the Gallegos to meet other young adults in the church and to see the politics of the church first hand.

The Gallegos stayed in a home owned by St. Mark’s Episcopal Church along with about 50 other young adults.

The convention, held last August, was the 74th General Convention and the first one that had a young adult component.

The Gallegos were exposed to many other viewpoints during the convention week, including the controversial decision to allow Gene Robinson to be voted in as bishop. Robinson’s role in the church was hotly debated due to his sexual orientation.
