Ned Stephayn

Graveside services for Ned Stephayn of Grass Valley will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Penn Valley District Cemetery.

Mr. Stephayn died Sunday, March 19, in Grass Valley. He was 85.

He was born May 5, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., to Harry and Kathern Stephayn. He served in the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was awarded the Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation One Star, and the Asiatic Pacific Two Stars. He received a bachelor of science degree from Western Michigan College of Education. He worked as a real estate broker and water witcher for 20 years. He enjoyed gardening, classical music, and water witching for area water drillers in Nevada County.



He is survived by his sister, Ann Bray of Michigan; brother, John Stephayn of Michigan; and step daughter-in-law, Margaret Fisher of Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Stephayn in 1991; and son, Mark Stephayn in 1995.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
