NC may develop community market like SF’s Ferry Building

Mark the calendar for 6 p.m. next Thursday – Nevada City’s Sustainability Team members are hosting a three-hour public workshop to discuss a community market.

This potluck meeting will take place at the Alpha Building (formerly Broad Street Furnishings) at 210 Broad Street. Team members are hoping to turn the vacant building into a community center filled with business kiosks, shops and farmers markets in the off season.

San Francisco’s Ferry Building on the Embarcadero ( http://www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com/ ) is the team’s model.

After state officials turned down California Organics’ latest loan pre-application, the chance of the business moving into the Alpha Building looks hazy. Building owners are considering alternatives.

Watch for more on the proposed project later this week in The Union.
