Mystic promises dancing, drumming, healing

Onye Onyemaechi is a complex man. He is a composer, a ritualist (personalizing rituals and celebrations for life milestones), a teacher and a holder of an MBA with an emphasis on international business. He is also a master drummer and dancer.

Friday, he promises to put on quite a show at St. Joseph’s that will include audience participation. He encourages dancing and invites people to bring along their drums or other percussion instruments.

“When people drum, laugh and cry, sing and dance together,” says Onyemaechi, “they heal and feel joyful and optimistic.”

He promises a musical feast that uplifts the spirit and celebrates world diversity with a blend of African and Western music.

Born and raised in Nigeria, Africa, Onyemaechi trained in the ancient drumming traditions of his culture. He has taught his unique style of dance and drumming in such places as Harvard University, the Esalen Institute, the Kaiser Medical Center Sutter Health Center and the California Institute of Integral Studies. As an adjunct faculty member, he founded the Drum and Dance Society at Sonoma State University and now lives in Santa Rosa.

This is a peak experience for all ages.
