“An Evening of Kirtan” will be presented by Jai Uttal and Geoffrey Gordon Friday at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center.

Kirtan is an ancient practice of chanting – the heart of devotional yoga – in India.

The musicians use call-and-response group chanting and storytelling in concerts and workshops around the world.

Friday, Uttal will be on vocals and harmonium; Gordon will be on percussion.

Uttal is a sacred music composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. He recently released his fifth CD, “Spirit Room,” featuring his band, Pagan Love Orchestra.

Gordon has performed on CDs by Uttal, Robbie Robertson, Ram Dass and R. Carlos Nakai, among others.

The performance starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 in advance at BriarPatch and Herb Shop Records and $15 at the door.

The cultural center is at 410 S. Church St., Grass Valley.
