Music – 3rd Axis plays first public show

Adam Kline

Though they each have more than 20 years of music experience, the members of local band 3rd Axis will play their first public show together tonight at Cooper’s in Nevada City.

Comprised of guitarist/vocalist Floyd Goldstein and bassist/vocalist Dan Raiche, both of Grass Valley; and drummer Steve Spyres of Yuba City, the rock fusion group has rehearsed for a year and has performed at local parties in preparation for tonight’s public unveiling.

Goldstein described 3rd Axis’ music simply as “melodic rock fusion with mind-provoking lyrics,” and then he went deeper. He added that the audience should expect to hear “a variety of basically different songs. We try to create a wall of sound with various spatial overtones and encapsulate dynamics within our music to create various tonal textures.”

The event will benefit the Nevada County Food Bank.

“The idea was to help the community and create an event that would generate either cash or food to benefit a local charity. In this case, we chose the Nevada County Food Bank,” Goldstein explained. “We looked at a number of different organizations, but we wanted to find something local that could use the help, that would reach the most people.”

The self-recorded, self-released 3rd Axis debut CD, “Equinox,” will be sold at the show. Proceeds from CD sales will also be donated to the food bank.

The band is currently setting up future shows around the area.
