More storm activity possible through tonight

More flash thunderstorms and hail are possible in Nevada County the rest of today and tonight according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

The initial storm that roughed up gardens and dumped almost an inch rain on western Nevada County Tuesday night has moved east. However, a new belt of wet weather developed just south of Lassen National Park at 2 p.m. and is moving into the Sierra here and in Placer County.

Power was lost at Cascade Shores and along Red Dog Road about 2:30 p.m. and was still out at 3:20 p.m.

Heavy snow showers have occurred along Interstate 80 at Blue Canyon and snow levels could dip to 4,500 feet the rest of today and tonight. That could make travel treacherous at the higher elevations over mountain passes.

The unseasonably cold temperatures that rolled in Tuesday are expected to linger through Thursday.

The National Weather Service said today’s highs will not rise above the mid-60s, with lows around 43 tonight. The highs will climb a bit to the upper 60s Thursday, with a low around 46.

Foothill temperatures will start climbing again Friday into the mid-70s, with lows inching up into the high 40s. Highs will be back around 80 Saturday and Sunday, with lows around 50. Skies will be clear today and Thursday, and partly cloudy Friday through Sunday.
