More rain expected tonight, snow possible on passes

There is a slight chance for rain in western Nevada County this afternoon, but a new wet and windy weather system is expected to bring plenty tonight and Friday.

The next round of precipitation could bring up to two inches of rain to the foothills and up to four inches of snow to the Sierra above 4,500 feet, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

Weekend mountain travelers should have snow chains and are urged to call the California Highway Patrol road conditions hotline at 1-800-427-7623 before departing.

Highs are expected in the 50s today through Saturday, climbing into the mid-60s Sunday as the next system moves across the county. Lows will be in the mid- to low 40s through the weekend.

Skies are expected to be clear Monday through Wednesday, with temperatures in the low to mid-70s. Lows will be in the mid-40s.
