MOMs take a hike

One of the primary fundraisers for the Nevada City Schools Foundation, the 14th annual Moms on the Mountains (MOMs) hike is taking place on Saturday (Sept. 6).

The hikers will begin and end their trek at the Sugar Bowl Mountain Resort. Three trails are available this year, a short hike and two longer, more challenging hikes, all with great views.

Open to all women 18 and older, registration, which is open up to day of the event, is free but participants must raise a minimum of $50 in sponsorships.

Pre-hike instructional stretching sessions, refreshments, post-hike massages and a silent auction are all included.

Hikers will be automatically entered in a raffle for great prizes, with special prizes awarded to categories such as the oldest participant and the hiker who traveled the farthest. As always, participants can hike as little or as far as they choose.

To date, MOMs has given more than $300,000 to fund curriculum enhancements that include artist-in-residence programs, pottery classes, music workshops and instruments, computer equipment, Internet access, and programs of general student support.
