Moms on the Mountains celebrates 10 years

On Oct. 9, 2004, Moms on the Mountains (MOMs) will celebrate its 10th year with a hike from the Pacific Crest Trailhead at Boreal to Castle Peak.

Conceived in 1995 as an annual fund-raiser for the Nevada City Schools Foundation, this women-only event has raised more than $100,000 for curriculum enhancements in art and technology over the last decade.

Participants hike a designated route and must raise a minimum of $50. The trail usually covers easy to moderate terrain, and participants can hike for as long as they want. Hikers also enjoy pre-hike stretching and post-hike massages.

This year’s event returns to Castle Peak, the site of the first event 10 years ago. Hikers have the option of crossing up to three mountain passes, depending on how long they want to walk.
