Molestation suspect’s bail raised to $2 million, felony charges added

The Nevada County district attorney’s office said Friday morning that it has filed 21 felony charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child against Luis Ponce. His bail has also been increased to $2 million.

He has already been charged with 57 misdemeanor counts of possesion of child pornography in Alameda County where he is now being held. He works there as a paramedic supervisor although he has been suspended from his job with the Berkeley fire department. He is scheduled to enter a plea to those charges on Feb. 15, after which he’ll be moved to Nevada County for arraignment on the felony charges.

Ponce was arrested at his home on the 13000 block of Rattlesnake Road on Jan. 26. He and his wife cared for foster children in their home.

Nevada County Sheriff’s Investigators have requested help from the public in gathering information about children who have lived with Luis Ponce.
