Miner freshmen open DVC with win

Nevada Union’s freshman football opened Delta Valley Conference play with a 30-13 win over Franklin of Elk Grove at Hooper Stadium Thursday.

After forcing the Wildcats to punt on their first possession, NU drove down the field all on the ground. Broughan Jantz scored on a 5-yard run and Drew Hoskin added the two-point conversion with a run over right tackle.

The NU offense racked up 270 yards rushing on the night, with Hoskin gaining 95 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, Vallejo 80 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and Kirby Hopper 63 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

The leading tacklers were Nate Wilkening with five, while Vallejo and Daniel Pettinatto each had four. Anthony Olivas blocked a Franklin punt inside their 20 yard line
