Mildred Harriman

Memorial services for Mildred L. Harriman of Grass Valley were conducted Sept. 25, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside. Dr. James King officiated the services.

Mrs. Harriman died Friday, Sept. 17, in Grass Valley. She was 96.

She was born Oct. 24, 1907, in Guyman, Okla., to Elmer and Laura (Johnson) Parcell. At the age of 15 she went to work for the telephone company in Kansas City, Mo. She started out delivering messages on roller skates and later became a long-distance operator. She married George Whitney Harriman on June 13, 1936. In 1970, they moved from Kansas City to San Clemente where they were members of St. Andrews by the Sea Methodist Church. She moved to Laguna Hills in 1998 and then to Grass Valley in 2000, where she lived at Quail Ridge Senior Living. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and traveling.



She is survived by her daughter, Lauralie DePriest, of Grass Valley; grandchildren Kyle DePriest of Santa Cruz, Eric DePriest of Pacifica, and Julie Ormerod of Pleasant Hill; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Whitney in 1988.
