George Michael Jones died at home on Aug. 9 after a lifetime of complications from juvenile diabetes. His wife and son were by his side. He was 63.

A private family service will be held on Friday, Aug. 15 at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.

Mr. Jones was born Jan. 29, 1945, in Berkeley and spent his youth in Richmond, where he graduated from Harry Ells High School. He lettered in football and baseball, and was a member of the high school band. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golf, fishing and camping.

Mr. Jones married Sharon Jean Hill on July 10, 1965, and they have a son, Robert.

He and his family moved to Grass Valley in 1981. He opened his insurance business in 1981, and his son Rob joined him in partnership in 2002.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 43 years; his son, Robert; brothers Aaron, Lyle, and Randy; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Maxine Jones.
