Mid-week concerts begin Wednesday

Music in the Mountains founder Paul Perry will play the organ during free miniconcerts on Wednesday afternoons leading up to Christmas.

The concerts offer a respite from the holiday rush and a chance to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas. They will feature local musicians including Nevada City violinist Ann Gaines and the Peace Brass Ensemble.

Dec. 4 will showcase Perry playing early music used for chants, including “Of the Father’s Love Begotten” and “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” Both have been sung for more than 1,000 years.

Concerts start at 4:45 p.m. every Wednesday, Dec. 4 through Dec. 18, at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main St., near downtown Grass Valley. A short service of seasonal prayer and reflection will follow. No offering will be taken. Visit http://www.PeaceLutheranGV.org for details.
