Merna Goerz

Merna Luella Goerz, 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Laguna Niguel.

Mrs. Goerz was born May 18, 1920, in San Francisco to Bessie (Shaw) and Harold O. Welch.

During her 25 years as a resident of Nevada City, she was part owner of the Gilette Nursery and involved in multiple civic and Methodist church activities. During her 30 years in Auburn, she was a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, president of the Mt. Vernon Grange and president of the Auburn Garden Club. As a passionate horticulturist, she enjoyed working in her garden and sharing her knowledge of flowers and plants with others.



She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Nancy of Laguna Niguel; daughter, Glenda Kruse of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Willard Riesen Goerz Jr.
