Meeting tonight for Lake of the Pines recall

A town hall meeting will be held tonight in Lake of the Pines to give its residents and members of the board of directors the opportunity to discuss the upcoming recall election.

The effort, which was spearheaded by Dave Campbell of LOP, will allow the gated community’s property owners to vote whether to keep or discard their seven board members.

On April 19, one ballot will be mailed to each residence and voters will be able to vote for one, all, or none of the directors. Voters will have one month to return their ballots to the independent consulting company who has been hired for the election, said Bob Broyer, LOP’s general manager.

The movement for the recall began several months ago after Campbell and several of his supporters became concerned that the seven board members were not representing the community. Charges that the board has funneled too much money into keeping the golf course running and allegations that the board changed quiet hours on the lake without adhering to popular opinion have riled the gated community.

At the meeting, Campbell will give a presentation outlining why the board has failed the community and need to be recalled, followed by an opportunity for each member to defend himself. The public will also be able to weigh in until the meeting is closed at 10 p.m.

The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the LOP clubhouse.
