Mayoral succession

Nevada City’s process for selecting a mayor was not based on “popularity.” Heretofore, five elected members of the City Council convened and chose the individual with the leadership qualities necessary (intelligence, diligence, dedication and stability) to lead the council and city administration through the ensuing year.

Now The Union reports that Steve Cottrell wants to “depoliticize” the current process. No, he wants to ensure that in the future someone won’t serve more than a decade without being mayor. What town needs a mayor laid back at the bar with beer in hand, as so aptly described in a recent article?

Where are term limits when you need them?

You did it to yourself, Nevada City, but don’t believe you deserve it. Do better next election.
