Mary Whitehead

Services for Mary Whitehead of Grass Valley will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grass Valley.

Graveside services will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Grass Valley.

Mrs. Whitehead died Friday, April 19, in Grass Valley. She was 83.



She was born on Dec. 1, 1918, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Charles and Caroline Varin. She graduated from Burbank High School.

She married Stephen Whitehead on Sept. 16, 1939, in Burbank.




She was a homemaker for more than 62 years. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Alta Sierra Country Club.

She enjoyed fishing, camping at the Yuba River and Sardine Lake, reading, and being with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Whitehead, of Grass Valley; sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Lia Whitehead of Millbrae and Marc Whitehead and Sheila O’Brien of Boise, Idaho; and daughter and son-in-law, Elyse and Mark Warner of Nevada City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
