Mary Street’s creations on display in Sacramento

Nevada City artist Mary Street is one of five Northern California artists in a group exhibition, “Degrees of Abstraction: Five Voices,” at the Exploding Head Gallery: Contemporary Art & Ceramics in Sacramento, today through Oct. 30.

The concept behind the show is the many different levels the abstraction genre covers – from representational abstraction to nonrepresentational abstraction.

Street’s encaustic on wood words are displayed along with ceramic sculptures by Numan Huseinbegovic, monotypes by Inya Laskowski, mixed media paintings by Craig Martinez and oil paintings by Farrar Wilson.

The free opening reception Saturday is from 6 to 9 p.m.

Viewing hours are 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The gallery is at 924 12th St. in downtown Sacramento and its telephone number is (916) 442-8424.
