Mary Michelsen

Mary Claire Michelsen died peacefully on Oct. 20, 2007, at Golden Empire Convalescent Hospital in Grass Valley of ovarian cancer. She was 64.

A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Michelsen was born in Long Beach on Nov. 30, 1942. She lived in Newport Beach, where she graduated from high school and Orange Coast College. She had a career in graphic arts and applied her artistic talents to many fields.



She lived in Nevada City in the late 1970s and then lived in Connecticut, Washington and Tennessee before returning to the area in 2005.

Those who knew her remember her grace and bravery during four years of her illness, as well as her sweet spirit.




Mrs. Michelsen is survived by her mother, Rhovina Parmelee of Grass Valley; sisters Carolyn Michelsen of Nevada City, Cleo Bouffiou of La Conner, Wash., Cathy Michelsen of Byron Bay, Australia, and Joan Marie Michelsen of Grants Pass, Ore.; and stepmother Mary Kay Michelsen of Ashland, Ore.
