Mary Bottom

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City, for Mary E. Bottom.

Mrs. Bottom passed away May 20 at her home in Grass Valley. She was 75.

Mrs. Bottom was born March 9, 1932, to Theodore and Mary (Trombly) Vernier in Grosse Pointe, Mich. In June 1950, she graduated from St. Paul’s School in Grosse Pointe, Mich. After graduation, Mrs. Bottom served in the United States Air Force as secretary for the Pentagon, between 1951 and 1954. She then became a homemaker.

Mrs. Bottom married George Bottom on Jan. 7, 1984, in Grass Valley. Her hobbies included antiques.

Mrs. Bottom is survived by her husband, George Bottom of Grass Valley; daughters Deborah Johansen of Benicia and Elizabeth Kinsey of Oakley; son, Mark Mahoric of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters Shirley and Judy of Michigan; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Theodore Vernier; mother, Mary Vernier; brother, Theodore Vernier; and daughter, Catherine Bottom.

Memorial contribution can be made to the Sierra Nevada Cancer Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
