Martha Alice Cantrill, a former longtime resident of El Paso, Texas, before moving to Grass Valley in 1997, died July 24. She was 89.

Private services will be held.

Mrs. Cantrill was born March 12, 1919, in Paintsville, Ky., to Joseph Creighton Cantrill and Linnie Victoria Litteral.

She attended John B. Stetson University for one year. She has been married to Luther Irving Davis for over 69 years.

Mrs. Cantrill was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Methodist Church Friendly Club and Eastern Star. She enjoyed music, especially piano and singing, oil painting, family outings, including trips to the Yuba River, and assisting her husband in construction of two of their previous homes.

Mrs. Cantrill is survived by her husband, Luther Irving Davis of Grass Valley; daughters Linda Jo Davis of Berkeley, Irene Sue (Gerald) Fitzgibbon of Ballinger, Texas, and Anne (Lawrence) Richmond of Grass Valley; son, David Irving (Shelley) Davis of Arlington, Texas; sister, Pauline Ezell of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, including Gerald (Dawn) Fitzgibbon of Nevada City, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Linnie Cantrill; sisters Catherine, Dixie and Irene, and brother, William K. (Bob) Cantrill.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley
