Mark your calendar: Musical events and holiday open house on the horizon

Nov. 9: Concert and dance, featuring the local band Village Folk Orkestra and the women’s choir, Podruzhki. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., music starts at 8 at the Nevada City United Methodist Church, 433 Broad Street, in the Fellowship Hall, at street level.

Nov. 17: Beauty Way Tour – Big Mountain benefit at Seaman Lodge, Pioneer Park in Nevada City. Clan Dyken, Kimberly Bass Band, the Wicker Men and more. Starts at 5 p.m. Suggested donation for salmon and vegetarian dinner is $7; for music, $10, although no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Nov. 23 and 24: Empire Mine State Historic Park’s Holiday Open House in Grass Valley, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults 17 and over, $1 for children 6-16, free for children under 6.
