Three plays open next week, two in Nevada City and one in Grass Valley. The Nevada City plays are presented by Foothill Theatre Company and Nevada County Performing Arts Guild. The Grass Valley play is presented by Nevada Union High School’s theater department.

Foothill Theatre Company will present “Little Shop of Horrors” at Nevada Theatre on Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. from March 1 through April 21.

“Little Shop of Horrors” opened in 1982 and became one of the longest-running off-Broadway musicals.

A preview performance will be on Feb. 28. Tickets are $10.

Tickets on other nights are priced from $5 to $21. Discounts for seniors, children 12 and under, students and groups of 10 or more are available.

The Performing Arts Guild will open the musical “Narnia” on Feb. 28 at Miners Foundry Cultural Center.

“Narnia” is an adaptation of the C.S. Lewis classic “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”

The play is about four children sent away from World War II’s air raids in London to a safe country manor. They find their way to the mystical land of Narnia, where it is always winter and never Christmas as long as the White Witch reigns. Aslan the lion has the power to save Narnia.

Show times are Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m. through March 8, and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. through March 10.

Admission is $8 in advance and $9 at the door for adults, and $4 in advance and $5 at the door for children 12 and under.

Nevada Union Theatre’s annual Spring Festival of Plays opens March 1 with “Eleemosynary,” a study of three generations of women. The play will be staged that night and March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre on the NUHS campus, 11761 Ridge Road.

“A Piece of My Heart” will be presented on March 15 and 16; “The Revenge of the Space Pandas” will conclude the Spring Festival of Plays on March 22 and 23.
