Marjorie Sample

Marjorie L. Sample, 83, of Grass Valley, died Sunday, Jan. 11, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley.

No services are planned. Interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit, Mich.

Mrs. Sample was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Flint, Mich., to James and Olive (Murphy) Morrison. She was raised and attended school in the Flint, Mich., area. She married Edward James Sample on Nov. 17, 1961. She worked for the U.S. government as an administrative aide and for the Social Security Administration for 36 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and sewing. She was a member of Sierra Presbyterian Church of Nevada City. She had been a resident of Nevada County for 27 years.



She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Edward James Sample of Grass Valley; sister-in-law, Doris Churnside of Grass Valley; great-niece and great-nephew-in-law, Kathleen and Patrick Lynch of Oakland; and numerous cousins and extended family members in Michigan, Arizona, and the East Coast. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Edith.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills or Sierra Presbyterian Church of Nevada City.




Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
