Marjorie Beutel

Graveside services for Marjorie E. Beutel of Penn Valley will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City. Pastor Andy Owens will officiate the services.

Mrs. Beutel died Sunday, Sept. 21, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. She was 89.

She was born Dec. 6, 1913, in Valley City, N.D., to Peder Olson and Minnie Jacobson. She attended one-room schools and graduated from Valley City Teacher’s College with a teaching credential. She married Orville W. Beutel on Oct. 16, 1949, in Las Vegas, Nev.



She taught in one-room schools throughout North Dakota and Colorado; she also did clerical work for 25 years.

She enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, rock hounding, horse racing and shopping.




She is survived by her daughter, Michelle L. Olsen of Penn Valley; and nephew, Steve L. Durnin of Tujunga.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville W. Beutel, in 1999; brothers John Olson in 1926, Kenneth Olson in 1945, Oscar Olson in 1979 and Paul Olson in 1986; sisters Bertha Sikich in 1956, Esther Coppes in 1974 and Pearl Durnin in 1981; niece, Sandra Sikich, in 1956; mother, Minnie Olson, in 1956; and father, Peder Olson, in 1958.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
