Marie Novak

Services for Marie Novak of Nevada City will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Canice Catholic Church in Nevada City. Memorial services with refreshments will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Nevada City Elks Lodge. Private burial will be conducted at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City.

Mrs. Novak died Saturday, June 26, in Grass Valley. She was 86.

She was born April 8, 1918, in Leadville, Colo., to William and Mary Ellen Dolan. She graduated from Central High School in 1936. She married Bill Novak on Aug. 13, 1937, in Leadville, Colo. She was a homemaker and founder/owner of M’Lady’s Clothing Shop from 1953 until 1989, when she sold the shop. She was a member of the Elks Ladies of Lodge No. 518, Nevada City, and the Soroptimist International of Nevada City. She enjoyed sewing and mothering the entire family.



She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Carl and Nancy Novak of Grass Valley, and Paul and Sarah Novak of Napa; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Sean and Francine Novak of Napa; granddaughters Rachael and Rebecca Novak of Napa; and niece, Dawn Hill of Chilton, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bill Novak; and brother, Bill Dolan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the “Piggy Bank” Elks Ladies of 518 Nevada City, P.O. Box 452, Nevada City, 95959.
